An Ergonomic Assessment is the formal assessment of your working environment and how you interact with it. This is often referred to as a DSE (display screen equipment) assessment, but it can also be an industrial setting or any other interaction with furniture, equipment, tools, machinery or people .
The purpose of this is to identify any negative effect the working environment may be having on your health and physical abilities and make suggestions as to how these can be improved. Many patients initially come into see us for a physiotherapy appointment and it can be very clear to us that there is a direct relation to the symptoms someone is describing or displaying and their working set up.
As physiotherapists we often give out some general advice about standing positions, sitting positions at your desk, or in your car or about how you are doing certain activities. The ergonomic assessment takes this process further and assesses the environment specific to you with your equipment and makes suggestions how changes could be made, designed for your individual needs and problem.
You and your environment are assessed in detail and a report is generated with specific suggestions about how this can be made as good as possible.
