DAVID BOWMAKER – Chartered Physiotherapist

B.Sc (Physio), M.Sc (Sports Science), M.Phty (Manip Physio), MCSP, HPC, MMPA (Aus)

Consolidating his BSc in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University College in 1991 with a MSc in Sports Science from Loughborough University, David enjoyed a four year general practise career with NHS, Scotland. Moving to Australia, where he worked in some of the most prestigious and forward thinking physiotherapy centres, David found his interest specialising in musculoskeletal and sports injuries.

Our self-confessed, eternal student completed his Masters degree in Manipulative Physiotherapy from The University of South Australia whilst working under the guidance of some of the world’s leading physiotherapists.

David’s philosophy gets right to the heart of dealing with the underlying cause of pain, not simply treating the symptoms as they are presented, but by building a partnership with patients ensuring that the pain does not reoccur. Recognising that the education of his patient and effective ‘at home’ exercise programmes are as important as the manual manipulation techniques he uses every day, David can seem like a hard taskmaster but the results achieved when both parties work together are often astounding.

ARLENE BOWMAKER – Chartered Physiotherapist

B.Sc (Hons)(Physio), MCSP, HPC, ACPOHE

Graduating in 1992 with BSc Hons in Physiotherapy from the University of Ulster, Arlene has worked extensively within NHS and private practice.  Her career has taken her around the world from Northern Ireland and Scotland and to Australia.

Arlene spent four exciting years working down under in Sydney and Adelaide but the impending arrival of her twin boys bought the family home to Central Scotland pronto!

During almost twenty years of clinical practise Arlene’s special areas of interest include soft tissue massage, clinical pilates, and hydrotherapy.  Arlene also specialises in ergonomic assessments, occupational health and work related injuries and has worked closely with major office and manufacturing companies both in Scotland and Australia enabling her to identify common causes of repetitive injuries and long term chronic pain problems.

When there is free time from a hectic clinic and busy family Arlene is an avid reader (she’ll give any book a chance!) and an enthusiastic amateur runner.

STEWART KERR- Chartered Physiotherapist

BSc(Hons) Sport & Exercise Science, MSc Rehabilitation Science (Physio), MCSP, HPC, AACP, ACPSM

With a background as an international badminton player, Stewart has an inherent awareness in the demands made on the human body both in sport and everyday life.

Whilst juggling his love of his sport alongside his academic ambitions, Stewart graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a 1st Class BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science in 2005, and then continued onto a MSc Degree in Rehabilitation Science (Physio) from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2008.  He has subsequently gained further qualifications in spinal manipulation, acupuncture and sports massage.

His approach to treatment is always tailor made to the patient and is focussed on long term plans, self-management and avoidance of reoccurrence of the injury through individual exercise patterns and education via specific classes or lifestyle changes.

Stewart’s specialist clinical interests include orthopaedic rehabilitation, work and postural related problems, shoulder injuries, spinal disorders and performance management of athletes.

Whilst building his career in private practice, Stewart has continued to work with sports teams and individuals across many disciplines but still finds time to bury his head in the latest research papers and can always be relied upon to lead the way with a new physiotherapy innovation!

When he is not busy at the clinic, Stewart is still very involved in the badminton world and currently competes for Glasgow in the British Premier League.  His real downtime normally involves a good film or taking in the view from the top of a mountain.

MARIA NIMMO – Practice Manager

Maria, our Practice Manager, ensures that patients and physios are all happy and in the right place at the right time and she is always around with a cheerful smile and ready for a chat even on a busy Monday morning before that first cup of tea!

Put simply, Maria oils all the cogs in the wheels making sure Life Fit is firing on all cylinders every day.

Maria moved to Scotland over ten years ago but don’t worry if you get her ‘telephone voice’, she really is a local!  Naturally a sociable livewire, and a superb ‘people person’ Maria is known to enjoy a glass of wine over dinner with friends, whilst also having been bitten by the exercise bug enjoying yoga, cycling and running.

KAREN DUFF – Sports Podiatrist
