Functional Movement Systems
We are offering an exciting opportunity to analyse and measure your movement through the Functional Movement Screen (FMS). Stewart Kerr is a qualified FMS Expert and can take you through the process.
What is FMS?
The FMS is the product of an exercise philosophy know as Functional Movement Systems. This philosophy is based on sound science, years of innovation, and current research.
A tremendous amount of individuals are performing high-level activities even though they are inefficient in their fundamental movements. Without knowing it, these individuals are putting fitness on dysfunction and relying on the body to compensate.
The FMS attempts to pinpoint these weak links and the Corrective Exercise System aims to alleviate them. When this is accomplished, the individual or athlete will have greater movement efficiency, which will lead to improved performance and hopefully a decrease in injury potential.

How it Works
Put simply, the FMS is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries.
The FMS generates a score that is used to target problems and track progress. The scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore sound movement patterns.
Who is it for?
The functional movement screen is designed based on human movement and therefore is for anyone who moves! It is not restricted to athletes but can be beneficial for elite and recreational sportspeople or for anyone looking to embark on a fitness programme. The FMS can also be useful after an injury, once the initial rehabilitation process has been undertaken and pain is resolved. It is also is a fantastic way of monitoring your progress throughout a training programme and to make sure you stay on track.

What to expect?
The FMS involves a series of movement based exercises so wearing shorts and t-shirt is required. The exercises however are not overly strenuous so you won’t be out of breath! An hour will be reserved for your FMS session, however the exercises will only take 10-15 minutes. The remainder of the time will be used to analyse your screen, develop a customised exercise programme and teach you the corrective exercises. You will also receive a detailed breakdown and explanation of your screen for your records and access to an online resource with detailed descriptions of your program including photos and videos.
