Aquatic Physiotherapy (Hydrotherapy) is the use of a pool or water to perform therapeutic exercise. There are many benefits in choosing this treatment technique.
The primary benefit is the reduction in the effect of gravity. Due to the buoyancy of water the forces going through our tissues are greatly reduced and so for people with severe pain or multiple joint injuries, exercise in water can be much easier.
Things to think about when considering hydrotherapy are the actual physical act of getting in and out of the water which could be tricky if you are in a lot of pain and some pools may be too cold which will cancel out any of the good work you feel you may be doing.
Aquatic physiotherapy may be suggested to you as a treatment option but feel free to call us and talk to us about it if you feel it might be something that suits you.
